When you think of the Tampa Bay area of Florida, you think of sunshine, beaches, and theme parks. You might also think of hurricanes. But the Tampa Bay area has been fortunate throughout recent years.
Because of its' location along the mid-west coast of Florida, tucked away in the Gulf of Mexico at such an angle that a boomerang might have a hard time hitting it, the area has not had a direct hit from a hurricane since 1921. That's 91 years. Although over 115 hurricanes have come ashore to Florida since then, none have directly impacted the Tampa Bay area. However, plenty of damage has been done to Tampa Bay throughout the years by hurricanes passing through the state and the Gulf, with high winds and rains reaching out to slap the area in the face, as a reminder to not take the weather for granted. But compared to the likes of Louisiana, and even Miami, the Tampa Bay area has been extremely lucky, and hopefully will continue on the same path.
